The Eurocentrica Association supported the Open Access publication by the British publisher Archaeopress of the academic volume “Textiles and War in Europe and the Mediterranean from Prehistory to Late Antiquity. Proceedings of the International Conference held at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilisation in Bucharest, Romania, 17-19 May 2023,” co-edited by Liviu Mihail Iancu and Francesco Meo, as well as the distribution of free copies to the 18 contributors, renowned scholars or emerging young researchers from institutions in the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Israel.
The volume, which explores the role of textile items in warfare from prehistory to late antiquity, examining their production, acquisition, symbolism, and practical use, can be downloaded from the following link: https://www.archaeopress.com/Archa…/Products/9781805830801
The book primarily consists of a collection of papers presented at the conference “Textiles and War in Europe and the Mediterranean from Prehistory to Late Antiquity,” held in Bucharest in May 2023 at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilisation. Its main goal is to explore the opportunity to establish a new and well-defined direction of academic investigation: the autonomously conceived research of textile items used or manipulated by prehistoric and ancient armed groups.
This initiative was made possible through a generous sponsorship from Trident Pharma, to whom we extend our gratitude for their support, and was carried out as part of the broader project “Supporting Academic Excellence: Conferences and Impactful Publications.”
