The Association Eurocentrica supported three volunteers to take part to the archaeological excavations conducted between 2 and 29 July on the Plateau of the ancient city of Histria by an international team led by Professor Adam Rabinowitz from the University of Texas, which conducts its research in partnership with ”Vasile Pârvan” Institute of Archaeology from Bucharest. The action is part of Eurocentrica’s project “Support for the archaeological research at the ancient city of Histria 2023”, sponsored by Trident Pharma Ltd. from Romania.
The three volunteers are Marian Tufaru, historian at the National Institute of Heritage of Bucharest and Oxana and Vitalie Ciudin, MA students of history at ”Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” State University of Cahul, Republic of Moldova, who had stages of two weeks each.
The three volunteers provided valuable support to the researchers and developed or improved at the same time several skills specific to archaeological work: identification of artifacts, research of archaeological contexts by taking into account the existence of different stratigraphic units, the use of the total station. For their activity, the two students will be awarded Voluntpass volunteering certificates, recognized in the EU. Additionally, Oxana and Vitalie Ciudin received volunteering certificates for their participation in the archaeological campaign of 2022, as well as a set of magazines of popular history ”Historia” and ”Historia Special”.
More information on the archaeological research undertaken since 2018 on the Plateau of the ancient city of Histria are available on the University of Texas website.
The Association Eurocentrica thanks the three volunteers for the wonderful activity they carried out at Histria!
